Graphic Design - Now in Production

On Saturday Bill and I went and checked out 'Graphic Design - Now in Product' at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. It was the last weekend this exhibit was here and I wanted to check it out. It is traveling around, I'm not sure where it's headed next, but I would highly recommend it.

Here are just a few photos I snapped of some of the exhibit on my iPhone (not the best photos...). I should have really recorded info on artist, etc., but I neglected to do so. And these are just in the order I took them...

Part of the lobby area.

One of the exhibit entrances.

They had everything sectioned out in to deferent categories... I think this was posters.

The next few were in branding/logos.

I forget where exactly this group/company/organization is located. The name of it is SALT. Instead of having a logo developed, they opted for a font instead where parts of the letters S, A, L, & T were missing.

Typography...
The best section. These first two photos remind me of taking letter form class in college, which was essentially drawing out fonts by hand. As much as I hated that class at the time, it really helped me learn more about fonts and helped that information to stick in my mind better.

I think this may have been the "main" entrance, but we never do anything right... Exterior shot coming up.

This was an area where they had this crazy "printer" that anyone could just type something out and the letters used stars. This "printer" or crazy hole punch machine, then punched those stars out of the sheet of paper. There was a really long line, so we didn't do that. Pictured below is this set up of makers with paper on top... the markers created different sizes and colors of dots on the paper. You can sort of see some on the wall to the right behind the woman.

That other entrance.

Walking towards the lobby area. That is Hennepin Ave outside.

The underground parking.

Wire Bird.

About a month before Christmas, I picked up this awesome wire bird ornament from CB2. I thought it would be the perfect addition to the bird cage in our bedroom. BTW, CB2's ornaments are on sale right now! I have sort of been on a mission to make some use out of the stuff I bought for the wedding, what I can't use I plan on trying to sell or donating.

And a shot of the bird cage card holder in it's original purpose/environment...

I had thought about somehow adding a bird to our birdcage cardholder. When I saw this ornament, I knew it would be perfect. It was/is the perfect color to go with our bedroom. Not having much of the yellow, I thought it would be a great little pop of color in the corner.

These photos didn't turn out very well, I might have to try taking some new ones in the daylight (which is very limited right now). I think it looks better with it. Now I just need to address the top - ribbon that's still on there from the wedding and the 'rope' that's holding it up.

Kitchen Light Fixture

I got some cash for Christmas... which is great and not at the same time. I always want to make sure I spend it on something I want and don't need, rather than a necessity. So, on Saturday, after a long day of helping a friend move, I decided I wanted to go spend some of that money at Menards (so exciting, I know...). They had a couple things on sale that I was interested in and thought the money would be perfect for a couple of projects I've been wanting to get done. The main one was some shelving in what is currently my office. The post about it will hopefully be coming soon! I bought the stuff, we just have to get it all up and organized. They also had those roll out garbage can things for in a cabinet on sale for $15 (50% off!!!)... If you've ever looked into buying one, they're not normally that cheap. On a side note: I'm sure it's not anything great, but we're just using it for recycling and probably won't even actually roll it out half the time.

While we were there, I decided, why not check out the light fixtures. We still had/have a couple that we want to switch out. One of those was the 'fancy' globe light over the kitchen sink.

We already replaced the main fixture in the kitchen and I had been having a hard time finding something that would match it (just a mostly normal ceiling fan). I had been leaning towards a pendant style light that had a matching glass fixture and the same brushed nickle metal finish. After what seems like years, we found one!

Menards Flamenco Pendant Light

Exciting!? Right? It was almost the exact glass shape and color that I was looking for. This one was a little more 'white' and solid. It is simple with clean lines. No extras.

Here are a few shots from the day/night it went up.

It has a little bit of adjusting needed yet, but Bill claims he'll be doing that tonight... we'll see about that. Hopefully he can get it centered a little better, the box itself is not...

Here are a couple more shots from in the daylight the next day...

Anyways, the light is great! It provides so much more light than the old one. I can actually SEE the dishes I'm washing now.

And now I need to rethink the curtain situation... I'm not really feeling all the white-ness going on. I think it might need some color and I don't think the two things should be ending at the same spot. Any ideas?

Happy Birthday Behr!

Yesterday was Behr's 4th birthday! He's an old man now...

He started his day celebrating with a cupcake. A real cupcake... And a real cute party hat that he hated. He hates when things are touching his ears. Eating the cupcake was an interesting process. I put it on a plate so that he wouldn't make a mess, but then he wouldn't eat it off the plate because he knows he's not supposed to eat things on plates. So, we had to help him out some. I did take some video and hopefully I'll be able to edit it this week and get it posted (this is something I have zero experience in, so it might be a while or real bad).

Behr was spoiled rotten all day... he got a new toy, a new bone, and a pig's ear. He had an extremely busy day making sure his ear was eaten and the toy & bone were played with. He even helped get in the way of a couple projects we got done around the house.

And then at the end of the day, Behr told us exactly what he thought of hi party hat...

Happy New Year!

Just wanted to say HAPPY NEW YEAR to the few people that read this regularly.

2011 was a great year with a few life changing events. It was the year I married my fantastic husband and went on our honeymoon (our first real vacation together too) to Mexico. For Bill, my husband, it was his first time out of the country. Lots of fantastic friends got married and even more got engaged.

So, here's to 2012 and hopefully it brings many new and exciting things!

Happy New Year everyone!
