Shopping: Mailboxes

Doing this work on our home really requires a lot of choices and shopping.

Do you want this in 4in or 6in? Would you like this in gray or white? Have you picked out your storm doors yet? And it goes on and on...

The mailbox was one of the many things we had to pick out and it was actually probably the most difficult. There wasn't anything that really caught my eye. Everything was too something... too art deco-y, too ornate, too you name it.

Here were some of the contenders...

  1. Umbra Postino Wall-Mount Mailbox, Stainless Steel
  2. Gibraltar Mailboxes D'elegance Steel Horizontal Wall Mount Mailbox
  3. Restoration Hardware Hardware Horizontal Mailbox, Stainless Steel
  4. Metro Wall Mount Mailbox, Aluminum and Acrylic
  5. Home Locking Wall Mount Mailbox, Stainless Steel
While our house is mid century and that's something we love, that style doesn't rule our lives. We like to keep it mid century with hint of modern and a whole lot of "us." At first I didn't want to pay a ton for a mailbox, really meaning more than something at Home Depot would cost. After searching stores and the internet, I (and we) weren't thrilled with what we found.

What did we pick? Clean lined #3 from Restoration Hardware.

Restoration Hardware happens to be located an easy 10-15 minutes away from home, so last week we zipped over there quick to hope they had them in store so we could check it out. They did not, so we just went ahead and ordered it. Worst case scenario, we could always return it and we needed it as soon as we could get it. (It's also available in a vertical orientation for those who like that style better.)

It arrived yesterday and still needs to be installed, but I think it's going to look fantastic! It's really great to see things starting to come together. While the outside isn't even done and won't technically be finished until spring when I can paint the front door, I am amazed by what I see. I honestly thought our house would never look so good...

Happy 6th Birthday Behr!

He's so handsome! It's so corny to say, but every day I'm amazed at how cute he is!

He's not really a fan of things touching his ears. Loves costumes/clothes, hates hats.

Hat removal. Sweet victory!

Later tonight, we'll do our annual cupcake celebration. He LOVES cupcakes!

Here is to many more years with this awesome little guy!

Hello 2014!

Hello 2014!

A new year begins a fresh start. At least that's the idea.

The new year for us means insanity in our house hold right now. We have officially moved the entirety of our basement onto the ground floor (our only finished floor) with a little in our one car garage that is actually housing a car. This is a big reason for the silence on the blog front.

Our basement should be started any day now and the exterior stuff is still under way.  Holidays and extremely cold weather has been the major hold backs, along with some issues with back ordered door glass.

Technically, our front door was supposed to be ready one week ago. That was after about a two month wait because the glass we picked out for the door was back ordered. On Monday, I was told that the door would be ready TODAY and installed. Supposedly they put the door on the wrong sized door jam. But... we are still rockin' the ugly old front door.

Let me tell you, nothing happens on time. And it is so frustrating.

I still have so much to share, I just really need to get the time to sit down and sift through the photos and take the time to put everything together. And right now, my computer requires me to lean over a bunch of things and stand awkwardly to do anything at.... Using Photoshop for more than a couple minutes is a no go right now. I do have a laptop that I can do typing on, so that helps. Anyways, it might be awhile yet. I am going to make a solid effort to make the computer usable again. I just need to do some rearranging and probably some more purging of stuffs.

If it helps to paint more of the picture, I have zero counter space right now. Zero. I need to make some big decisions on some dishes and serving pieces and give a majority of it the boot.

On another front, I have actually been going to school for another degree. As of December 22, I officially have two college degrees. Fancy. If I ever get the idea to go back to school again, please talk me out of it.

So, here's to the new year! Best wishes to all!
